Playwrought is back for 2019 – and bigger than ever!
Our celebrated Playwrought programme, championing new writing and voices, is returning. Over the course of the year, we will select twelve scripts from a series of monthly Script Windows.
Our next Script Window will open at 9am on Saturday 1 June and close at 9pm the same day. All submitted scripts will be read by a member of Arcola staff, and one script will be selected to receive:
- Pairing with a director and cast
- R&D space for one day, followed by a reading at Arcola
We are looking for unique voices that have not been heard before. Previously produced shows include Clarion by Mark Jagasia, Combustion by Asif Khan, Scenes from 68* Years by Hannah Khalil and Love, Bombs, and Apples by Hassan Abdulrazzak, which have all premiered at Arcola.
We will only accept finished scripts.
Email your script to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: ARCOLA PLAYWROUGHT JUNE 2019. Please make sure that for anonymity purposes your name and contact details have been removed from the script attachment.
Your attached script should include
- The title
- A cast list
- Numbered pages
Please also fill out the Application Form with your contact details.
We are only able to accept scripts submitted from 9am to 9pm the same day – any scripts submitted outside of this window will be automatically disqualified. We will only consider one script per writer per script window.
You may only resubmit each script one time, however, you may submit different scripts in the future.
Arcola is unable to consider the following: radio, television and film scripts, novels and poetry, adaptations, translations, musicals or synopsis-only submissions. We will also not be considering short plays (with an approximate runtime of under one hour).
Scripts which have previously been staged or received a rehearsed reading will not be considered.
