Arcola Lab

The diversity of artists involved in British Theatre is one its great strengths. The difficulty of gaining a footing in the arts establishment if you are not from a narrow range of backgrounds is one of its great weaknesses. Through Arcola Lab we will bring more excellent art to more people, by providing space and support for diverse artists.”

Mehmet Ergen, Artistic Director of Arcola Theatre

Through Arcola Lab, we offer 26 weeks of free rehearsal space every year to ethnically diverse and refugee artists and theatre makers. We want to support the development of new creative ideas and to encourage new, diverse voices.

Arcola Lab offers use of a rehearsal studio – Studio 3 or 4 – from 1 day to 1 week.

If you wish, we can support you to host a small showcase at the end of your residency.

As well as this, you’ll get the chance to share your ideas with other actors, directors and creatives currently producing shows on Arcola Theatre stages. How you use the time is up to you.

Applications are on a rolling basis but please bear in mind you may not hear back for awhile.

Arcola Lab is offered in partnership with Sustained Theatre and The London Hub.

We accept submissions for Arcola Lab on a rolling basis. If you’re interested in applying for Arcola Theatre, please email us on production@arcolatheatre.com with a summary of the project you want to develop, how receiving a week of free space will help you, and some information about you. We aim to get back to successful submissions within 3 months.
