Arcola leads in OffWestEnd award nominations

Arcola Theatre has received 9 nominations in this year’s shortlist for the OffWestEnd Awards – more than any other London theatre.

Mehmet Ergen is nominated for Best Artistic Director, alongside Paul Miller (Orange Tree) and Paul Robinson (Theatre503). Shrapnel, the first of two urgent political plays directed by Mehmet Ergen in Arcola’s current season, opens on 11 March.

Visitors is nominated in the Best New Play category; its author, Barney Norris, for Most Promising New Playwright.

Linda Bassett and Robin Soans received Best Female and Best Male nominations for their performances in Visitors. Robin Soans’ new play, Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage, opens at Arcola on 20 May.

Carousel is in the running for Best Musical Production, with Lee Proud nominated for Best Choreographer.

Arcola is represented in both the Best Supporting Female and the Best Supporting Male categories, with Vicki Lee Taylor receiving a nomination for her role in Carousel, and Simon Scardifield for Punishment Without Revenge.

The full list of finalists is on the OffWestEnd website. Winners will be announced on Sunday 22 February.

Arcola’s 2015 Winter/Spring season includes major productions about global politics and the state of the British media.
