TALES FROM THE UNDERGROUND

BUSH BOY and ARCOLA THEATRE PRESENTS

Two Stories… Two Characters… Two Very Different Journeys…

Tales from the Underground brings you Birth of a Blues and Dutchman, written by two of America’s award winning writers.

Birth of a Blues –  Ben Caldwell takes a satirical approach with hilarious effect in this amusing One Act play, in which a white journalist has his clichés turned on their head when he attempts to interview a legendary blues singer he finds busking on the subway.

Dutchman – LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) presents an encounter on the subway between Clay, an intellectual young black man and Lula, a seductive, bohemian, white woman. Their conversation, flirtatious at first, turns with devastating effect, when Lula attacks Clay’s middle class aspirations.
