SWEET CIDER

Written by EMTEAZ HUSSAIN
Directed by KRISTINE LANDON-SMITH

Presented by TAMASHA

A community is in crisis.  Two young Pakistani girls run from their families: one is hunted, the other forgotten.

This poignant story of fractured family ties sees Studio 1 transformed into an urban park where the action takes place. Featuring evocative and striking design and a cast of ten, Sweet Cider is produced by leading British Asian company Tamasha – creators of A Fine Balance, The Trouble with Asian Men and the groundbreaking East is East.

Tamasha means commotion or creating a stir, and Sweet Cider does just that. The fact that this is Emteaz Hussain’s dramatic debut is even more stirring as it displays a remarkable maturity and lyrical grace. Although this excellent new play deals with serious issues, it never preaches or condemns and is leavened with humour and great charm.
