Stadklang

Journalist and writer Dan Hancox will join us at the next Stadtklang Londonmusic evening at the Arcola Theatre Bar in Dalston to discuss and explore his critically acclaimed book ‘Inner City Pressure: The Story of Grime’ (William Collins, 2018). This weaves the explosive story of London’s grime music, and its stunning triumph against the odds, into the history of the 21st-century city, where gentrification, urban protest, pirate radio, police harassment, riots and tragedy are intertwined in the evolution of this stunning and alien style of grassroots urban music.

Dan Hancox writes about music, politics, gentrification, cities, protest, public space, food, multicultures, social movements, Spain and more, chiefly for the Guardian and Observer, but also the New York Times, London Review of Books, Newsweek, Vice, The Fader, New Statesman, Dazed, Frieze, Mixmag and XXL.

Stadtklang is UCL URBAN LABORATORY‘s music night run in collaboration with the Department of Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths.

All welcome, free entry and no prior booking required.
