Inspired by the story of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Release The Beat is a new musical set in contemporary London clubland and Ibiza.

Two DJ’s battle it out for the affections of the same girl. We follow Simone’s journey as she struggles to deal with her dominant father, the mother who left her, and the two boys who are fi ghting over her.

A funny, moving musical that fuses the conventions of the great book musicals of the past, with the Hip Hop, House and Breakbeat rhythms of today.

Judith Johnson
Judith’s plays include ‘Uganda’ at the Royal Court, ‘Somewhere’ at the National Theatre and Liverpool Playhouse,‘The Singing Group’ and ‘Exclude Me’ at Chelsea Theatre. She has also written for TV and Radio and was ‘dramaturg’ for the hit show ‘Come Out Eli’ at the Arcola Theatre.

Karl Lewkowicz
Karl Lewkowicz attended the inaugural Stratford East Theatre Royal Musical Theatre Workshop. Writing for theatre includes vocal and incidental Music for a children’s adaptation of Jabberwocky at the Arcola Theatre in 2002, and a musical adaptation of Graham Greene’s Brighton Rock. Karl is the singer and guitarist with the Nu Jazz Trio Round Midnite.
