“People hide behind the sofa all the time. It’s safe. It’s…out of the way”
Josh and his Dad have been trying to come to terms with the tragic death of Josh’s Mum.
Over time, they’ve found comfort in their common love of films. Horror films. As Josh grows up and the pressure on him to flee the nest builds, the dynamic in their relationship gradually shifts. They both come to realise that the scary things in life are not like those you see in the movies.
No Show is a play exploring the blurry line between the carer and the cared-for. It is about the importance of support networks for us all, and how mental illness can and does affect everyone.
Arcola Men’s Mental Health Theatre Company was established in 2015 and has produced two sold-out productions (Technically Speaking, 2016 and UnderCover, 2017).
Written and directed by company members Dr Hannah Ali and Henry C Krempels, don’t miss this latest production, continuing to challenge the stigma surrounding men’s mental health through scripted work, forum theatre techniques and members’ own experiences.
