KALI TALKBACK FESTIVAL

Kali celebrates 21 years of cutting edge theatre by South Asian women with a festival of rich and diverse contemporary plays by some of the most original voices in theatre writing. Come and help Kali celebrate their birthday!

Calcutta Kosher

If the past is another country, where is home

Two sisters return to the crumbling Calcutta home of their childhood. Family secrets are revealed and the women are forced to re-examine their relationship with their mother and the reality of their own lives in the light of a hidden past.

Set in the little known Indian Jewish community of Calcutta, this funny and moving play explores conflicts between old and new, east and west, tradition and truth. Award winning writer Shelley Silas examines how family and culture, time and distance influence our sense of who we are.

Award winning Kali has been presenting ground breaking new theatre writing by South Asian women for 21 years. They actively seek out and nurture strong individual writers who challenge our perceptions through original and thought-provoking theatre. Kali has won rave reviews, sell-out performances and inspired audiences all over the UK with work that reflects and comments on our lives today.
