In Praise of Freedom

The Writers in Prison Committee of English PEN

An evening of poetry and music to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the greatest poet in the Turkish language, Nazim Hikmet, whose work was banned for most of his life in his native country. The support of his friends Bertold Brecht, Pablo Neruda and Louis Aragon, ensured that his poems were published elsewhere, including Russia where he spent 12 years of his life in exile. The event marks a new publication of his selected poems in English: Beyond The Walls (Anvil Press).
