Bringing Brazil to Hackney


AfroReggae was founded out of tragedy. In August ’93, the Rio police marched into the favela of Vigario Geral, known as the most violent shanty town in Rio at the time, and gunned down 21 innocent residents. The whole city went into shock. However one man, a local promoter Jose Junior decided to act and AfroReggae was born. Now the band tour internationally, using powerful lyrics and defiant drums to expose the violence that threatens their people. They work with young people all over the world to share their skills so…

The workshop week will run as follows:

Monday 21st Feb- Friday 25th Feb 4 – 6pm
graffiti workshops for 15 people aged 15 – 25


Monday 21st Feb – Friday 25th Feb 6pm – 8pm
percussion workshops for 30 people aged 15 – 18


Both groups will be working towards a live show on: Saturday 25th Feb at 4.30pm
