Arcola Participation 50+ Company presents

Lysistrata

Written by Aristophanes

Directed by Grace Duggan & Katie Greenall

“It’s intelligence and common sense that we need, not violence.”

The ancient world is gripped by a seemingly interminable war. With the men of Athens serving in the forces, the women of the city can take no more. In secret they meet and form a pact. The battle moves into the bedroom. No sex for the men unless the women get peace. First performed in 411 BC, this bawdy anti-war play remains one of the great comedies. Layered with themes of feminism, power and politics, Arcola 50+ presents a play for our time.

ARCOLA PARTICIPATION 50+
Arcola Participation’s 50+ group is a community theatre company for Hackney residents over the age of 50. The group provides a space to explore theatre and performance, while giving the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people. The company works towards an annual performance in the Creative Disruption season, led by a professional director and a variety of one-off projects. If you are interested in joining the company in future years, you can express your interest here.

Relaxed Performances
All performances for Creative Disruption will be relaxed, this means that you are free to move about, make noise and come and go during the show. Latecomers will be permitted – this might be at specific points in the performance agreed with the artists.  For more access info, visit our Access Page.
