If you have ever wanted to write for performance or dream of writing a play, these 90 minute sessions will help you find your inspiration, understand what makes writing dramatic and show you how to structure your story to engage an audience from the beginning of a scene to the end of the script.
The three sessions will build on each other so that by the third you will have an idea for a new piece as well as have learnt simple tips and tricks you can apply to other projects at whatever stage of development. The sessions include exercises, discussions and plenty of practice along the way. They will be linked to the theme of Fire Fire – our environment – whatever that means to you.
The sessions are ideal if you have little or no experience and are thinking of writing a first play or monologue – or if you want to simply refresh your approach and find new inspiration.
John Webber is an actor, writer and producer and his play, Fire Fire, will run at the Arcola from 9 September until 3 October before touring the East of England, Birmingham and Brighton. His previous play, Spiderfly, was originally performed at Theatre503 and both plays are published by Nick Hern Books.
