Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto comes to Grimeborn in a newly conceived intimate staging by New Trinity Baroque, directed by Marcio da Silva and conducted from the harpsichord by Predrag Gosta. Set amid political intrigue, seduction and revenge, this baroque masterpiece follows the fateful encounter between Julius Caesar and Cleopatra in a drama of ambition, grief and desire.
Performed by an international cast and a chamber orchestra on period instruments, the production brings Handel’s extraordinary score to life with immediacy, elegance and dramatic intensity. Praised internationally for its vibrant performances and commitment to historically informed practice, New Trinity Baroque presents one of opera’s greatest works in the close-up, theatrically charged atmosphere of the Grimeborn Opera Festival.

Sandro Rossi is a Flemish–Italian countertenor. He studied music and drama at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and performs widely across Europe, specialising in Handel roles associated with Senesino. This season’s engagements include Giulio Cesare and Medarse in Siroe with New Trinity Baroque, Ottone in L’Incoronazione di Poppea at Staatstheater Schwerin, Umana Fragilità/Ericlea in Il ritorno d’Ulisse at the Salzburg Festival, and Paris in Sammartini’s Judgement of Paris with La Risonanza.

Serbian soprano Radoslava Vorgić is recognised for her expressive artistry in baroque repertoire. Praised for her ‘warm and radiant voice’ (Solothurn Zeitung) and ‘remarkable coloraturas’ (Wiesbadener Kurier), she has appeared at theatres including Wiesbaden State Theatre, Theater Biel-Solothurn and New Belgrade Opera. Alongside her performing career she lectures at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and collaborates regularly with New Trinity Baroque.

Croatian soprano Silvija Radjen Kumar performs widely across Europe, the United Kingdom and India, where she currently resides. She has appeared regularly on the London stage and at international festivals. Her operatic roles include Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Almirena (Rinaldo), Emira (Siroe), Nerone (Agrippina) and Dido (Dido and Aeneas). A prize-winner of several international competitions, she is recognised for her stylistic versatility and vivid stage presence.

Spanish-Argentinian mezzo-soprano Julia Portela Piñón studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. Her repertoire includes roles such as Ruggiero (Alcina), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro). She appeared as Nerone in the OFFIE-nominated Grimeborn production of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea. A former Young Artist with Cape Town Opera, she has also performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

Italian contralto Federica Moi specialises in baroque and early repertoire. A protégé of Sonia Prina, she has appeared in opera and concert performances across Italy and Europe, collaborating with conductors including René Jacobs, Alessandro Quarta and Carlo Ipata. Her repertoire ranges from baroque opera to major sacred works including Handel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Duruflé’s Requiem.

Serbian bass-baritone Sreten Manojlović studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. After being selected for William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix programme in 2019, he gained international recognition as an expressive bass-baritone and has since collaborated regularly with Les Arts Florissants and conductors including William Christie, Leonardo García Alarcón and George Petrou. He has appeared at venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival.

Conductor and harpsichordist Predrag Gosta is recognised internationally for his work in baroque opera and historically informed performance. He founded New Trinity Baroque in London in 1998 while completing postgraduate studies at Trinity College of Music. He has conducted opera and concert performances across Europe and the United States. His discography includes around twenty recordings, including ten with New Trinity Baroque and two with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is currently a doctoral researcher at the University of Oxford.

NTB has collaborated with artists including Bojan Čičić, Steven Devine, Evelyn Tubb and Sonia Prina and has appeared at festivals across Europe and the United States. It released ten CDs receiving critical attention in Opera and Early Music.
