Arcola Theatre presents the Rhum and Clay production of

Mistero Buffo

by Dario Fo

Directed by Nicholas Pitt
Starring Julian Spooner

★★★★★ “This is, in short, a tour de force … a shapeshifting, body-popping, mesmerising performance; drilled to perfection” – WhatsOnStage

Nobel prize-winner Dario Fo spent thirty years perfecting Mistero Buffo, reworking well-known Biblical stories to skewer the rich and powerful.

One of the most controversial and popular spectacles in postwar European theatre, its broadcast caused the Vatican to denounce it as “the most blasphemous show in the history of television”.

Now – after a smash-hit, sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe – Rhum and Clay bring their award-winning production to Arcola for two weeks only.

Julian Spooner embodies over a hundred characters in a virtuoso performance, directed by Nicholas Pitt. Funny, tragic and always subversive, Fo’s rallying cry for the disenfranchised is reimagined and reinvigorated for our ‘gig’ economy and post-truth world.

WINNER of The Stage Edinburgh Award 2018
