I SHAN’T PERISH EASILY / BEN KOLAY ÖLMEM
by Ali Has
Directed by Nesimi Kaygusuz
11-13 March, 7.30pm
Two poets… Two lives… One story.
On the one hand – AHMED ARIF. With just one book (reprinted over 60 times), he made a lasting impression, becoming one of the most widely-read poets in Turkey.
On the other hand – CEMAL SUREYA. Expressing his struggles in poem after poem, each with its own life and story, he coined around 300 new Turkish words.
For three nights only at the Arcola Theatre, Ahmed and Cemal will meet on stage for the first time. I SHAN’T PERISH EASILY explores their extraordinary life stories, and the crossovers and parallels between two giants of Turkish literature.
Vedat Yildirim and Cansun Kucukturk – two of the founders of infamous bands ‘Kardes Turkuler’ and ‘Bajar’— join them to perform their original compositions for this unmissable London premiere.
“whereas you, are my completing half — the piece over the water that completes me…”
“note my life as it is…or maybe, it will go recorded as rumour…”
