The Secret Life of Wildflowers

Green Arcola and Creative Engagement are pleased to be joining forces to take part in Grow Wild, the UK’s biggest-ever wild flower campaign.

Our first launch event is on Saturday 4th June, linked with Dalston Children’s Festival and will combine planting, story gathering, food and drink to help launch our project, The Secret Life of Wildflowers.

The Secret Life of Wildflowers will see us transform an underutilized outdoor space on the former Arcola Tent site with British Wildflowers. Along the way we hope to educate and entertain our community, by getting them to think creatively about nature, climate change and how we interact with the world around us, ideas from which will feed into a children’s performance later in the summer.

The event will run 12 noon-2pm and there will be opportunities for community members to help us plant, plan and gather stories . We will pay homage to our industrial and theatrical heritage by using elements of previous sets to create an urban outdoor space. We will use the resulting flowers and stories as inspirations for costumes and narrative for a children’s production.

To take part, please contact creativeengagement@arcolatheatre.com or just drop in.

Grow Wild is the UK’s biggest-ever wild flower campaign, bringing people together to transform local spaces with native, pollinator-friendly wild flowers and plants.

Supported by the Big Lottery Fund, Grow Wild is the national outreach initiative of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Through us millions of people are doing something positive where they live; connecting with wild flowers, plants and places around them, taking notice of nature, getting active, learning new things and sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.
