Arcola wins 3 Off West End awards
Arcola Theatre has won three 2018 Off West End Awards, which celebrate the best of London theatre Off West End.
Femi Elufowoju jr won Best Director for The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives: our acclaimed stage version of Lola Shoneyin’s novel, and one of the most popular shows in Arcola’s history. Femi Elufowoju jr will return to Arcola in May to direct a new production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee WIlliams.
Julia Burbach’s production of Britten’s The Rape Of Lucretia – staged as part of Arcola’s annual opera festival, Grimeborn – was named Best Opera Production. This marks the first Off West Award for the festival, having previously been nominated for Tosca in 2016.
Arcola Bar also won for a People’s Vote Award for Best Theatre Bar for the fourth time.
This year’s Offies awards ceremony was held at Battersea Arts Centre on Sunday 3 February.
Finalists for Arcola included Associate Director Jack Gamble (Best Director, The Daughter-in-Law) and Luke Swaffield (Best Sound Design, Forgotten 遗忘). Arcola was also a finalist in the People’s Vote Awards for Programming Policy, Most Welcoming Theatre, Best Facilities, Online Info & Booking and Best Programmes.
