The Youth Facilitator’s Toolkit

The Youth Facilitator’s Toolkit is a two-day training course specifically aimed at actors, directors and anybody with a theatre background who wants to add an extra string to their bow.

Following on from our successful first course in November 2013, this carefully curated Arcola training course will equip you with the skills you need to start a career as a freelance youth drama facilitator. Please note that there are strictly limited spaces so please book early to avoid disappointment!

The course will feature talks and workshops from industry professionals covering the following areas:

  • Getting Started–What kind of work is available, how do I get it and how do plan and deliver a workshop or project so it works?
  • Techniques for the Rehearsal Room – this fun, hands-on, session will teach you all sorts of exciting and useful drama tools to use in your workshops: we will look at games and why they’re important, as well as how they can form an integral part of your rehearsals.
  • Inclusive Performance – this session will focus on how to develop an inclusive approach to youth facilitation.
  • Behaviour Management – Love working with young people but worried you might end up with a mutiny on your hands? This session will explore different ways of managing challenging behaviour.
  • Devising with Young People – When we create new theatre with children and young people, it is important that every child has their ideas listened to and included. This session will explore ideas about how to manage a truly inclusive devising process.
  • Creative Evaluation – An important part of any facilitators job is evaluation, what worked and why? What can we learn for next time? This talk will explore how to evaluate workshops in fun and creative ways.

You will also receive supplementary packs containing information on the following:

Arts Freelancing & Child Protection and Safeguarding, as well as printed resources to take away for future use including tons of great drama games and exercises to use!

This Arcola course provides a strong grounding in facilitating drama workshops with children and young people. The leaders of each section are experts in their field and the course has been specifically designed to provide training across all areas of freelance drama facilitation.
