A Young People’s Guide to Feminism

Devised by the members of Arcola Youth Theatre

Directed by: Ross Crosby, Bec Martin-Williams & Cheryl Walker

“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.”
– Rebecca West

Arcola Youth Theatre presents an immersive and visceral theatre event. Find yourself moving through the world created by our young people in an experience like no other as you witness original performance art, installation, subversion of form and space in a piece focused on feminism and how young people engage with it.

Throughout this term, students have been exploring the complexities of feminism: what it really means, who it affects, and why it matters. These young people have immersed themselves in constructive discussions and shared personal stories about the ways gender expectations restrict our lives, and how we can each do our part to challenge and change the status quo.

Join us to experience the original work born out of Arcola students’ investigation of this topic. Each of the three AYT groups will perform their pieces in cannon as the audience move throughout the theatre.
