The X

A radical new re-imagining of La Prisonnière by Edouard Bourdet, created by the company

Directed by: Rubyyy Jones

R loves X… J wants R… F adores J… E longs for F… How can anyone live within the constraints of a society that can at best misunderstand them, at worst, only condemn?

One of the first plays to depict lesbianism on Broadway, Edouard Bourdet‘s La Prisonnière ignited a scandal in 1927, prompting new laws against obscenity and the arrest of the entire company.

Now, 90 years on, Arcola Queer Collective presents a radical reimagining of this landmark play following their sold-out productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Little Prince.

Enter the world of The X for a provocative tale of romance, sexuality and societal submission, directed by international cabaret and queerlesque star Rubyyy Jones.

“You ought to know me well enough to realize that I’ll do what I’ve decided to do… even if doing so shatters everything.”
