Arcola secures Arts Council National Portfolio funding

We are delighted to announce that Arcola Theatre has retained its place in Arts Council England’s National Portfolio. We will receive around £300,000 of public income every year for the next 4 years, amounting to just over £1.2 million of support.

Artistic Director Mehmet Ergen said: “We’re grateful to the Arts Council and to the public for their continued backing. It will provide 18% of the funding we need to deliver our programme over the next four years, creating life-changing opportunities for the hundreds of artists, thousands of local participants and tens of thousands of audience members who make up Arcola’s community.”

Executive Producer Leyla Nazli said: “This funding will enable us to produce new plays, including from raw talent and unknown writers, with challenging themes and in daring form and language; to showcase works by leading contemporary playwrights with at least one new commission every year; and to reimagine classics of world drama with exciting, socially-engaged productions.”

Executive Director Ben Todd said: “In these times of Brexit, internationalism is vital. We will use our public funding to produce art for and by a wide range of voices – not just to make British theatre more representative, but more interesting and impactful on the international stage.”

Even with this crucial support, Arcola relies on donations, sponsorship, venue hire and ticket sales for 82% of our income. If you like what we do, make it happen by becoming an Arcola Supporter from just £4.17 a month, or consider hiring Arcola for your birthday party, meeting or business event.
