Arcola Theatre Creative Engagement has announced two weeks of events, performances and productions across two mini-festivals.
First up in our youth mini-festival, Arcola Youth Theatre (13-17 years) present Shakespeare: 3 Plays – abridged versions of Julius Caesar, King Lear and Twelfth Night. Following a term’s exploration of new theatre styles and techniques, these vibrant productions will breathe new life into some of Shakespeare;s most famous plays. Towards the end of the week, we are pleased to present a new devised production from Young AYT (9-12 years). TechnoSapiens explores how technology and social media impact on our everyday lives, and is a culmination of this terms exploration of physical theatre. In our final presentation we welcome local French language youth theatre Mind Your Language, who will be presenting Kirikou et la Sorciere. For our youth festival we also welcome the acclaimed Futures Theatre Company who present Sugar and Spice – a new production especially for secondary schools.
For our second mini-festival, Arcola Ala-Turka present Ala-Turka Yaz! – a new summer Festival of Turkish theatre, music and culture. The festival features three events across the week; first up Ala-Turka present staged readings of new plays devised by the group and classic’s of the Turkish Stage, Friday night see’s a double bill of Underbelly: the evolution of Belly Dancing, alongside UK rembetiko sensations Pakaw!. Finally Saturday night provides another chance to catch Underbelly plus an invite to the Ala-Turka closing party- a chance to join with the company and dance into the early hours of the night.
