HILDA

By MARIE NDIAYE
Directed by GILES FOREMAN

Caravanserai Productions & Acting Studio in collaboration with Marjanishvili Theatre

30th December - 31st December 2008
Starting time: 8pm
STUDIO 2

A bitingly funny parody about the psychology of oppression.

A neurotic upper middle class woman forms an hilarious obsession with her handy man Frank – seemingly an immigrant worker. His failure to respond to her advances leads her to wield her wealth and power to devastating effect, stripping him of everything he owns – including the woman he loves – Hilda.

Every racist cliché can be found wittily embedded in Sarah Woods' accomplished, biting translation. The visceral nature of the comedy brilliantly exposes the irresponsibility of the West towards the developing world and the tragedy of the oppressors as well as the oppressed.

Two actors from the Actors Studio – Fiona Graham and Merlin Leonhardt join with Marjanishvili ensemble member Tea Kitsmarishvili for this piece in English.
