Zoop, Zoop, Hackney! Who Aksed U?
When local Hackney B-boy Ross Bass wins Big Sister, the world is at his feet. But the only offer he is interested in comes from a media svengali who convinces him to run for Mayor of Hackney. After all, more people voted for him than did in the election…surely Hackney is crying out for less crime (and ting), more health (and ting), and less bendy buses (and ting and ting). But all is not plain sailing, particularly when the rival Big Sister contestant is running against him, his party political broadcast is deemed offensive to almost everybody, and the girl he chirpsed in the garden has an axe to grind…
Commissioned by Hackney Council to promote Local Democracy Week, this new play – devised with The Arcola Youth Theatre by writer Benjamin Davis and director John Terry - is a topical, funny and interactive drama about what democracy means to young people. So make sure you turn up and vote (and ting and ting)! |
